History of Yurimaguas
The name Yurimaguas is derived from the fusion of two Indigenous groups — the Yuris and the Omaguas.

Following Peru’s independence in 1827, Yurimaguas experienced significant migration, which intensified during the late 19th-century rubber boom. This growth helped establish the city as an important regional hub, earning it the titles "Historical Capital of the Peruvian Amazon" and "The Pearl of the Huallaga", thanks to its cultural importance and natural beauty.

Yurimaguas is also known for its deep spiritual roots and is home to the Apostolic Vicariate of Yurimaguas in the Loreto region. With improved infrastructure and a newly paved highway, the city is now more accessible than ever before.
